About Us

The Context. Diana Vishneva festival is a platform aimed at supporting and developing contemporary Russian choreography.

By discovering new names, creating new works in major and minor forms, we strive for the advancement of contemporary dance, keeping it relevant and needed.

The festival is characterized by a pursuit of knowledge: knowledge of dance, myriad styles, cultures, and one’s inner freedom.

A space for personal growth and success is offered to choreographers and artists at the festival through our Context Symphony program, as well as through participation in our dance-group and other educational projects.

Diana Vishneva, a ballerina herself, is the founder and creative director of the festival. She created the festival in 2013 as a creative laboratory for young choreographers, as well as an outlet for the latest and most interesting works by foreign dance companies to reach the Russian viewer.

The works of over 40 leading choreographers have been shown at the festival since its inception. More than 20 world-renowned dance companies have been represented. The festival has toured in Yekaterinburg, Perm, as well as the most important dance venues in the world: the Holland Dance Festival in The Hague, Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London, and the Suzanne Dellal Centre in Tel Aviv.

Other important directions for the Context Festival include the creation of its own dance productions, co-productions with Russian theatres and dance companies, as well as the filming of documentaries.
