Workshop from Codarts University for the Arts
‘The body is the instrument, vulnerable and naked in its truth and expression. With your body, you can move to put feelings in a certain order and give space a specific meaning’ — Neel Verdoorn.
Neel Verdoorn is a guest teacher in one of the most famous European dance schools — Codarts University for the Arts. In Moscow and Saint Petersburg Neel will give contemporary dance workshops for professional dance students and amateur dancers.
In her classes she focuses on the dynamic relationship between space and the dancer as well as on dynamic alignment within the dancer’s body. Through the years she developed a movement vocabulary that uses the core support versus extended lines, forming a technique that challenges the dancer in terms of grounding and simultaneously extending and spiralling through space. Neel works with the dancer on the awareness of the body, the use of oppositions in the torso, free arm movements and articulated leg and feet work. She is also works on differences in dynamics in the dancing, how to use ‘suspense’, the attack and the use of the element ‘off balance’.
